E-Commerce
E-Commerce, there is a right way, and a wrong way
E-commerce or electronic commerce refers to the activities, which involve buying or selling of services or products over some electronic system such as Internet along with other computer networks. In recent times, the amount of trade which is done electronically has grown enormously with widespread usage of the Internet. Although a large portion of E-commerce consists of virtual items like access to premium content on a site; most E-commerce transactions involve transporting physical items.
Since e-commerce plays such a vital role in the overall economic scenario, it is fairly important, to have a good e-commerce website. However, having a good website is easier said than done. It takes a lot of analysis to decide which things should come in first and which comes last. Most of the websites fail to address this condition. The following are some of the major aspects, that you should take note of, when designing your e-commerce website:
- Your first and foremost priority should be knowing what your customers want. This will help you in designing your website in a way that you are able to offer your customers exactly what they are looking for. Visitors may easily get mad if they do not get the kind of information that they are looking for; and it takes just a click of the mouse to eliminate a prospective sales opportunity. So, it is better to keep it simple and user friendly.
- Obviously, advertisement and promotion is a major aspect in regard to e-commerce. However, you should see to it, that you do not end up only boasting about the product, while all that your customer want to know, is the price of the product and whether you accept credit card payments or not.
- Similarly, it is also your responsibility to see to it that the customer does not get confused with all the products and in the end simply clicks ways to a different site, simply because, you had too much to offer. You should therefore design your website in such a way that the visitor does not have to move through a jungle of links.
- Regularly updating of your site is another major aspect. You should therefore see to it, that your website contains features, which assist in hassle free updating. A good platform for this is Drupal, the open source CMS.
Apart from the above, there are several other aspects that you should consider while designing your small business website.
