Website Analogy Website Analogy

Many people have trouble understanding just what a website needs to be online. After getting this question often we thought we’d help explain the confusing website jargon with a simple analogy.

When you want to build a house you need to have land, otherwise where would you build it? This is website hosting. It’s the space allowed on the web where you place your website. (View our web hosting plans.)

Now that you have the land it’s time to build your house. This is the web development or website building phase. And websites are like houses where you can have fully custom designs (that take longer to complete) or buy a modular home that is built off-site and placed on the land (very quick with pre-created themes).

And lastly, you need to have an address to help people find your house. This is the domain name (example.com). The Internet is vast and you need to provide an easy way for people to find you.

Hopefully this simple analogy helps you better understand why hosting is necessary, along with the basics of website jargon. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
